LEARN SWIMMING FOR HEALTH, PLEASURE AND SAFETY
Swimming is an activity that burns lots of calories, is easy on the joints, supports your weight, builds muscular strength and endurance, improves cardiovascular fitness, cools you off and refreshes you in summer, and one that you can do safely into old age. In this article, I’ll review the history of swimming, the benefits, the strokes, how to get started, what to wear, equipment you need, where to do it, and more.
Human beings have been swimming for millennia. Stone Age cave drawings depict individuals swimming and there are written references in the Bible and the Greek poems “The Iliad” and “The Odyssey” dating back 1,500 to 2,000 years. There are even Egyptian clay seals from 4000 BC showing four swimmers doing a version of the crawl, and the most famous swimming drawings were apparently found in the Kebir desert and were estimated to also be from around 4000 BC.
The school emphasises greatly on the overall development of the students, paying a special attention to swimming. All the students are facilitated with a well-built and well-maintained swimming pool. The swimming pool of the school sizes 25 x12½ mtrs. It is a six lane swimming pool which was inaugurated by Syt. S.K. Birla on 25th August, 1999. It was first looked after by Mr. Yogender Singh (P.E.T) and later on joind by Mr. Lal Sahab Singh (Swimming Coach, B.Com, B.P.Ed., N.S., N.I.S.) in the year 2000. Mr. Pyarelal joined the team in the year 2006 as a Life Saver
The young swimmers of the school have brought laurels for the school and have made the name of the school excel in the field. The school had won 8 medals in the first Inter BET Swimming Meet and the District Meet in 2002. But since then the school has taken huge strides in the area and has dominated the state and National Level Competitions. In the year 2011, the school participated in C.B.S.E. West Zone and C.B.S.E. National Level Competitions. Ashish Nayak broke the records of Pilani Swimming History by winning 3 golds and individual championship in C.B.S.E. West Zone and C.B.S.E. Nationals. This year, a 12 year old girl of the school has been taking part in Women Festival organised by PYKKA, Udaipur (Rajasthan) and has been performing exceedingly well among the elder age groups also.
The students as well as the swimming officials, under the guidance of the dynamic principal, Dr. Satyendra Kumar, have done a great job to bring the school to this level of excellence and hopefully the journey will be even more productive in the years to come.
